We are called to a feast. A feast that was prepared the first time almost two thousand years ago, and which will continue to the ages of ages. We wait for the One who gave His body. Jesus said that He would not eat or drink this feast with us until it is fulfilled in God’s kingdom. This is a touchstone that some revisit each week, remembering that it is He who calls us, He who saves us, and He who will return for us.
I’m about forty years old, but I know there are people who have been Christians longer than that. That’s two thousand times to return to that meal in Jerusalem, and to that time in the New Jerusalem. Two thousand crumbs of bread, two thousand sips of grape juice. But it’s enough to keep coming back for a lifetime of nourishment.
