I watched the American version of Utopia a while back. It was interesting. There were some good parts and some bad parts parts. It was funny at times and very dark at others. Then I watched both seasons of the British version. It was better in some ways, and worse in others.
The gist of the show is that a secret organization, The Network, wants to sterilize the most everyone on earth. The Network believes that humans are overpopulating the world and will face starvation and war soon. They create a flu scare so people will willingly take their vaccine, which will sterilize everyone (Corona panic and vaccine, anyone?). Since most people won’t be able to have children, the population will dwindle to just 500,000 souls in a couple hundred years.
In both versions of the show, some of the characters have morals, others are amoral, and still others immoral. The show is a story about will; what are people are willing to do for the future they want? How many millions is The Network willing to kill to create their “Utopia”? How far will Ian, Becky, and Grant go to stop them?
Almost everyone believes in a utopia. But the problem is that some people believe they can make utopia here in earth. “Utopian” means “no-place,” yet true believers have been willing to kill millions to achieve their dream.
The Network in Utopia is willing to kill children and sterilize the world. Real communists – Stalin, Mao, the Khmer Rouge, North Korea – already killed nearly 100 million people in the twentieth century. Today, the BLM and Antifa commies will certainly kill more people if given the chance.
As a Christian, I know that utopia isn’t possible here on earth. The Bible is the story of God’s people struggling and persevering here on earth. Jesus Christ tells us that we will face trials – “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
Christians know that our utopia waits for us in Heaven with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. On earth, we can find peace in Jesus.
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” – Jesus Christ, John 14
Everyone believes in utopia. Tragically, many people have lived their lives killing and dying for the false god of utopia on earth. Others, thank God, have lived and sacrificed for the one person who can bring us into a true utopia.
Heaven is real. It’s waiting for all who have been called by God the Father through the Holy Spirit and saved by Jesus Christ His Son.
